What are eBooks?
eBooks are full size, full color*, page-by-page reproductions of your book in Adobe Reader .pdf format which you can view on your desktop, laptop, or tablet computer. eBooks are also fully searchable.
*If original book is in color, than eBook will be in color.
What are some benefits of eBooks?

What are System Requirements for eBooks?
Unsecure eBooks can be viewed on any computer system that supports Adobe Reader version 8.0 or greater. (Windows PC, Macintosh, Linux, Kindle, MobiPocket, iPad, Sony Reader, etc.). At this time Secure eBooks can be viewed on Windows (98, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, Windows 7). We hope to expand this capability in the near future to include handheld devices.
What are secure eBooks?
Some publishers require that the intellectual property of their titles be protected from file sharing using a Digital Rights Management (DRM) system. With this system, you are permitted to open your eBook on a maximum of two computers (Windows PC only). Depending on the publisher's requirements, you may also be limited in your ability to print or copy & paste text from your eBook to other files on your computer. The restrictions placed by the publisher on each eBook are noted on the description pages of each book. (Click the picture of the book to see the description.)
How do I know if I'm getting a secure eBook?
Check the description page of the eBook you want. Under "eBook File Description", if the file type is "Secure eBook", than the eBook is secure. You will also see the specific restrictions (if any) the publisher has placed on the eBook. If the file type simply says "eBook", than the eBook is not secured
Secure eBooks are also labeled "SECURE EBOOK" on the shopping cart checkout page when you add to cart and on your final invoice.
What software will I need to read my eBook?
Your computer will need Adobe Reader V.8 or greater, which is a FREE software download. If you do not already have a current version of Adobe Reader installed, click here to download.
For secure eBooks, you will also need to install the FREE Adobe Reader plug-in from FileOpen Systems, Inc. to access your downloaded file. Once you have installed the plug-in on your computer, it does not need to be reinstalled with future eBook purchases. This is a safe and Adobe approved plug-in that will not negatively impact your computer system, privacy or personal information. Also note that secure eBooks can be viewed on Windows (98, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, Windows 7) only.
How does the plug-in work?
The FileOpen plug-in allows only authorized computers to open and work with a purchased eBook. Like any DRM security system, usage rights such as copy & paste or printing limitations, are stored on the eBook file. When your computer has an internet connection, the plug-in initiates a behind-the-scenes call to our database to verify that your computer has authorization to access the eBook. This process is instantaneous and will not delay the opening of your eBook. This plug-in is safe and Adobe-approved. It will not in any way impact your computer system, privacy or personal information.
Do I need the plug-in to access all eBooks?
No, you will only need to install the plug-in to view secure eBooks.
What is the process of ordering an eBook?
When you order an ebook, you will first go through the standard shopping cart to place the order. You will then receive two e-mails at the e-mail address you provided. The first e-mail is your invoice. The second e-mail is the download instructions and download links for the eBooks you purchased. Click the download link provided in the e-mail and save the ebook on your computer.
For secure eBooks, there are two additional steps; install the FileOpen plug-in as described above, and enter the username and password which was provided by e-mail after you completed your purchase.
What if I have trouble downloading my eBook?
Contact us if you have any problems downloading or opening the files. We guarantee that we will make your download work or immediately refund the entire amount paid.
What are the restrictions on a secure eBook?
The restrictions vary by publisher. All secure eBooks allow you to access your eBook on a maximum of two computers. Other security features may also be applied regarding your ability copy & paste and to print pages from your eBook. To find out what security features apply to your eBook, refer to the "eBook File Description" on each eBook's description page on our website.
Can I read my eBook when I am not connected to the internet?
Yes. However for secure eBooks, you will need to be online the first time you open the file for the authorization to take place. After that, you may use and enjoy your eBook offline anytime, anyplace.
Where can I access the FileOpen plug-in so I can download my eBook?
Click here to install the plug-in. You can install the plug-in anytime before you open secure eBooks for the first time. You will only need to download the plug-in once.
Does your satisfaction guarantee policy apply to eBooks?
Yes! We guarantee that you will be completely satisfied with every purchase made from us. If within 30 days, you are unhappy with your eBook for any reason, we will immediately refund your money.
I purchase secure eBooks for other people in my company. How can I forward the secure eBook to the end user?
As long as the secure eBook has not been opened, the file may be forwarded to the end-user via e-mail. The locking technology locks the document to the first two computers that the file is first OPENED on. You must use the username and password that was included on your invoice to open the eBook.
I would like to read my eBook on a new computer I purchased, but I've already opened the eBook on two computers. What should I do?
E-mail us your request and we will be happy to modify your computer assignment to include the two computers of your choosing.
Can I network secure eBooks or put them in a shared file?
No, secure eBooks cannot be networked. If a secure eBook is stored on a network server or shared file, it will still be accessible only by the first two computers on which the secure eBook was first opened.
I upgraded Adobe and now I can not open my secure eBooks. Why?
If you upgrade Adobe Reader, you will need to reinstall the FileOpen plug-in. If you need help with this, please contact us.
I can't see the bookmarks tab in my Adobe Reader
All eBooks are bookmarked so that you can navigate the eBook by chapter and/or subject. If the bookmarks do not automatically appear on the sidebar of your Adobe Reader, go to View -> Navigation Panels -> Bookmarks. If you are still having difficulties, please feel free to contact us.
What if I can't find the eBook I am looking for?
New eBooks are being added every day, so be sure to check back with us. In the near future, we expect 90% of the books we offer to be available in your choice of book or eBook. If you have any questions, always feel free to contact us.
